The analyses in StatPac for Windows go far beyond the
ones available in Web Poll. We recognize that some
users will need more advanced analyses. Which
version of StatPac for Windows do you need?
Web Poll will create files that can be used
directly by StatPac for Windows. There's no hassle
with converting or importing files.
If you're
using the free version of Web Poll, then the student
version of StatPac for Windows will give you exactly
what you need. Both will handle up to 100 respondents
per survey. The
Student Version of StatPac for Windows is
identical to the full version except for the 100
respondent limit. It has all the basic and advanced analyses
procedures.
If you're using the paid version of Web Poll and
your surveys exceed 100 respondents, then the
Basic Statistics Module of StatPac for Windows
will most likely give you the reports you're looking for
(e.g., frequencies, crosstabs and banner tables, and
descriptive statistics).
If you need multivariate analyses, then you'll also
want the
Advanced Statistics Module.
How to use StatPac for Windows with Web Poll
The process is slightly different depending on
whether you're using our server (webpoll.org) or your
own server to host the survey. The idea is that you
want Web Poll to create a codebook for you. If
you're using the webpoll.org server to host
the survey:
- Develop your survey with Web Poll
- Conduct the survey
- Select Analysis > Download Data
- Download the StatPac for Windows .zip file to
your local computer
- Unzip the file to your current StatPac for
Windows data folder (usually C:\StatPac\Data). The
download contains a codebook, data file, and
topline procedure file. All you have to do in
StatPac for Windows is select Analysis, load the
procedure file, and run it.
If your using your own server to host the
survey:
- Develop your survey with Web Poll.
- Enter at least one test record on the Web Poll
server. For every numeric variable, type the
maximum allowable value. For every open-ended text
question, type as many characters as you want the
field length to be. For example, if you want to
allow a response of up to 200 characters, then type
200 random characters for the response.
- After entering a test record on the Web Poll
server, select Analysis > Download Data
- Download the StatPac for Windows .zip file to
your local computer
- Unzip the file to your current StatPac for
Windows data folder (usually C:\StatPac\Data). The
download contains a codebook, data file, and topline
procedure file (.cod, .dat, and .pro respectively).
The data file is just the test data so delete the
data file on your local computer. Do not delete the
codebook or topline procedure file.
- When you conduct the survey on your server, the
data will be collected in a tab-delimited text file
(.txt). The first record (row) is the variable
names. In order to use the data in StatPac, you
must import it. Run StatPac for Windows and select
Analysis/Utilities/Import. Import the tab delimited
file using the existing codebook. (i.e., instead of
letting the import program create a new codebook,
you'll use the one that you downloaded).
- Select Analysis, load the topline procedure
file, and run it.
Note: Both of the above begin by using Web Poll
to create the survey questions (recommended).
Alternatively, you can begin by using StatPac for
Windows to create a codebook, and then using the
Web Poll question menu, upload the codebook to the
Web Poll server. Using this method, you'll probably
need to edit the questions after they've been
uploaded. Questions that should appear grouped
together (e.g., a matrix) will need to be combined
into a single Web Poll question. The question menu
has tools to make the editing easier. Edit the
survey questions online until the preview appears
the way you want. Then begin at step 2 above. The
codebook that you download from Web Poll (step 4
above) will be the one you use and the original
codebook you created in StatPac for Windows can be
archived.
